Every piece of clay has a purpose. But the clay has to choose to be shaped. When I decided to have joy in my deafblindness, the world started opening up in a whole new way, and that joy changed the way I see everything, just like a potter shapes a piece of clay.

Everybody forgets me. Even the count forgets me, nobody can quite figure out how many deafblind people there are in the United States.

But if I can tell you my story while I make a pottery piece, I believe your challenges, whatever you're solving for, can be shaped into something too. There's pressure to shape a piece. There's pulling to shape a piece. There's challenges along the journey the clay is going to face.

The question is: are you willing to trust the potter through the process?

I sit at the wheel and share the heartache of being deafblind, the heartache of a world that wasn't designed for people with challenges like mine. The clay stays willing anyway. It keeps being shaped.

Is the potter willing to help the clay have access to the world?

You matter, just like I matter, just like the clay matters. You get the chance to be the potter, to shape access for people like me. But how often do you forget me? Solve for my challenges, and you solve for everyone's.
