Every piece of clay starts as a lump with no purpose. But the Good Potter never walks away from clay that's messed up. He picks it up and shapes it into something with purpose.

Isaiah 64:8 says it plainly: “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand.” That's not just a verse to me. It's my whole life.

I was born into a life that looked normal on the outside but needed deep shaping underneath. Feeling different from everyone around me led to pain deep enough that by eight or nine years old, I had already attempted suicide three times. At nineteen I became legally blind, and the anger that came with it led to twelve more attempts. Loneliness opened the door to an addiction I hid from everyone, even from God.

But the Almighty God never walked away either. In my darkest moment, He met me and told me He had a plan, even for my deafblindness. Other believers helped me finally surrender that addiction and start healing.

What came out of the shaping is joy, not happiness, because happiness only solves a quick problem, and joy carries you through it. Perseverance, because it's what carried me through every one of those years. And character, forming a hope found in Christ, not in how well things are going.

You matter. God sees you. He has never walked away from messed up clay, and He's not starting with you.
