The Good Potter: A Transformative Message for Your Group

Discover the Power of God’s Shaping Hand

Are you ready for a powerful, life-changing experience for your group? The Good Potter is a message that will inspire your audience to reflect on how God shapes and molds our lives—especially through challenges and struggles. As someone who lives with DeafBlindness, I know firsthand that life can be difficult, messy, and full of unexpected turns. But I also know that God uses every challenge to shape us into something beautiful and purposeful.

I invite you to experience The Good Potter in a way that will leave your group inspired, hopeful, and ready to trust God in their own journeys.

What is The Good Potter?

In The Good Potter, I use the art of pottery as a metaphor for life. Just as a potter shapes clay on a wheel, God shapes our lives, using challenges to refine and mold us. Through a live pottery demonstration, I share how God has worked in my life, despite my DeafBlindness and other struggles, to mold me into the person I am today.

The Journey Your Audience Will Take

1. Centering the Clay: Trusting God’s Control

In the beginning, the clay must be centered to stay steady on the wheel. I’ll share how our lives can feel off-balance when we try to control everything ourselves, but when we trust God to center us, He brings clarity and direction. Your group will be invited to reflect on areas where they need to let go and trust God more fully.

For me, this lesson began when I was a teenager, grappling with suicidal thoughts. My life felt uncentered, and I reached a point where I felt completely lost. But through surrendering to God’s will, I found purpose and peace. I’ll share the powerful moment when I realized that God wasn’t finished with me, even when I felt like giving up.

2. Shaping the Vessel: Growth Through Life’s Challenges

As the potter shapes the clay, it stretches, pulls, and takes form. I’ll show how, just like the clay, we are shaped through life’s trials and struggles. I’ll share stories of how my DeafBlindness and past difficulties have been used by God to deepen my faith and purpose.

But it wasn’t just my DeafBlindness that shaped me—it was also my battle with addiction. I spent years trapped in addiction to pornography, a struggle that left me feeling ashamed and isolated. I’ll share how God used that dark season to shape me into a man of integrity and purpose. I’ll discuss how, even in the depths of my addiction, God was working to mold me for something greater, showing me His love and His plan for my life.

Your Audience’s Takeaway:
They’ll begin to see that their own struggles—no matter how deep or overwhelming—can be used by God to shape them into something beautiful.

3. When We Resist the Potter: The Cost of Telling God “No”

Sometimes, the clay resists the potter’s hands, cracking or collapsing. In this part of the demonstration, I’ll show what happens when we resist God’s shaping—how our lives become stuck, incomplete, or miss the purpose He’s designed for us.

In my own life, I resisted God for many years. I was addicted, struggling with my emotions, and battling suicidal thoughts. Every time I tried to take control, I only created more mess. But through the grace of God, He never gave up on me. I’ll share the moment I reached a breaking point and how God’s loving hands helped me find redemption.

Your Audience’s Takeaway:
They’ll reflect on areas of resistance in their own lives and be encouraged to surrender fully to God’s transformative power

4. The Finished Work: Embracing God’s Purpose for Us

The pottery demonstration culminates in the creation of a beautiful, finished piece. Even though the clay might have seemed imperfect at times, the potter’s hands created something meaningful. Similarly, no matter where your group feels broken or incomplete, God is still working to shape them into something beautiful.

Through my struggles with addiction, suicidal thoughts, and living with DeafBlindness, I have learned that God is always working in our lives, even when it doesn’t seem like it. Today, I stand as a testimony of God’s grace, His patience, and His perfect ability to redeem our brokenness. I’ll share how I now use my experiences to inspire others and show them that God’s hands can transform any mess into something meaningful.

Your Audience’s Takeaway:
They’ll leave inspired, knowing that their struggles don’t define them, but rather, God can use them for His glory and their good.

Why The Good Potter Matters

This message is not just about pottery; it’s about how God is at work in our lives, shaping us even in the most difficult moments. It’s about trusting the process, surrendering to God, and allowing Him to mold us into the people He created us to be.

Through The Good Potter, your group will be encouraged to trust God’s hands in their own lives—no matter how messy or challenging their circumstances may seem. They’ll leave inspired to see God’s purpose in their struggles and ready to be shaped into something beautiful.

Our Unique Services

Type 1: In-Person Message and Pottery Presentation

This is the most expensive and time consuming event I do because of the cost of getting myself and my potter’s wheel to your location. I need at least 2 months advance notice to speak in person and to make arrangements to ship my wheel and have enough time for the wheel to arrive. I require a downpayment for all of my travel expenses upfront as this part is costly (if you should need to cancel, the initial expense would not be refunded. If you should need to reschedule, you would need to cover any additional expenses. If I am the one that needs to reschedule, I will pay for any additional initial charges the changes incur.

The standard cost besides the speaking fee would be as follows:
1.) Airfare for 2 people- one for me and the other for my assistant or gas if I am driving
2.) Hotel costs
3.) Shipping costs of my pottery wheel, if I am flying
4.) Food and travel at location

*Due to the travel, the piece made in person does not get fired or turned into a finished piece because of the risk of the piece breaking

Type 2: Virtual Message and Pottery Presentation

One of the biggest benefits of me doing Virtual Pottery Presentations is that I can finish the piece after the event and ship the piece to you. I only have you cover the standard speaking fee and the virtual assistant costs unless you have someone willing to be my virtual assistant throughout the process. Then I will send you an invoice for the finished piece. Why do I use a virtual assistant during my virtual presentation? He or she helps with the camera setup before the presentation, runs my cameras during the event, and reads and monitors the comments so I don’t miss anything. The cost of the virtual assistant is $180.
The standard cost besides the speaking fee would be as follows:
1.) Airfare for 2 people- one for me and the other for my assistant or gas if I am driving
2.) Hotel costs
3.) Shipping costs of my pottery wheel, if I am flying
4.) Food and travel at location

Type 3: In-Person Message

If you don’t want the hassle of having me ship my pottery wheel but still want the power of my story, I am happy to come and inspire your audience to live beyond their challenges. I am more than just a potter but also a gifted storyteller. I am able to provide a tailored speech based on my life and your preferences to show how others can overcome their own challenges.

The standard cost besides the speaking fee would be as follows:
1.) Airfare for myself
2.) Hotel costs
3.) Food and travel at location

Type 4: Virtual Message

Speaking virtually has been something we have come to embrace over the last couple of years, which is why I offer a virtual presentation without my pottery wheel. I normally use these types of presentations to engage with my viewers so they can ask questions while I  tell my story. We can talk through what you would like to include in this format. Depending on the format, I might request to have a virtual assistant help me manage the comments and the video feed. This would be an additional fee of $180. The virtual format is more flexible due to the way I can interact with the audience and what the event is for.

Included in the Virtual Pottery Presentations:
1.) Speaking fee
2.) A tailored Presentation
3.) Audience interaction
